A look at the 2023 GMC SUV lineup

The GMC SUV and crossover line-up returns for 2023 offering a line of compact, mid-size and full-size trucks and crossovers that cover a large swathe of the utility world, from ground-stomping off-road specialists to luxurious, smooth-riding boulevard cruisers and road-trip specialists.

Here’s a look at what the line-up of GMC SUVs looks like for 2023.

2023 GMC Terrain

While the changes from 2023 to GMC’s smallest crossover aren’t astronomical, the standard 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine has seen its horsepower output increase from 170 hp to 175 hp. The four trims available last year remain – SLE, SLT, the off-road tuned AT4 (which was a new trim for ’22) and luxurious Denali. Power is sent to either the front wheels or to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Standard features include a 7-inch infotainment display, six-speaker audio, Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with eight-inch touchscreen display and heated driver and front passenger seats. The AT4 off-road trim adds Goodyear Sports Terrain off-road tires, unique grille and front steel skidplate, while the top-spec Denali trim provides Bose 7-speaker audio, heads-up display an perforated leather seating.

2023 GMC Acadia

From the compact Terrain we jump to the mid-size Acadia which adds and optional third row of seating and space for up to seven passengers. Like the Terrain, it comes in SLE, SLT, AT4 and Denali trims with power from either a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine (230 hp, 258 lb-ft) or a 3.6L V6 (310 hp and 271 lb-ft.). Power is sent to all four wheels only – the FWD option has been dropped for ’23 – via a nine-speed automatic transmission. In AT4 spec, watch for the addition of hill-descent control, hill start assist, active torque control AWD system and 17” gloss black wheels shod with all-terrain tires.

Upgrading to the luxurious Denali package provides  heads-up display, 8” driver information centre within the gauge cluster, 20” wheels and wireless charging.

2023 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL

Luxury is the name of the game for GMC’s biggest SUV with the addition of the Denali Ultimate trim for 2023. It adds full-grain leather upholstery, special 22” wheels, open-pore wood inserts, 18-speaker Bose audio and even massaging front seats.

The Denali Ultimate trim joins the SLE, SLT, AT4 and Denali trims in both the standard and longer XL models. Yukon models come powered by a choice of three engines, depending on trim: a 5.3-litre V8 (355 hp and 383 lb-ft), a 6.2L V8 (420 hp and 460 lb-ft) and an ultra capable diesel 3.0 six cylinder that makes 277 hp and 460 lb-ft. No matter which engine you choose, they all come mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. You can, however, choose from 4×2 (SLE and SLT) and 4×4 (AT4, Denali, Denali Ultimate) powertrains.

In both the Yukon and Yukon XL, the AT4 trim adds 20” all-terrain tires, magnetic ride control, heated steering wheel and second row outboard seats and specially designed front end for a better approach angle. Thanks to its extra length, the XL model can stow more gear either with all seats down, or all seats in place. The XL models are also the only models that can fit up to nine passengers, with standard Yukon models capable of seating seven or eight.
