The 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray boasts a new front-mounted electric motor that pushes total output to 655 horsepower, making the E-Ray the most powerful Corvette ever built.
The new Corvette C8 generation made quite a splash when it was introduced a few years ago, and now we get the very first hybrid version called the E-Ray. This electrified Vette is pushing the boundaries of what a performance car can be. From its advanced technology to its efficient powertrain, this Corvette changes the game and offers something you won’t find in any other supercar in this price range.
A powerful hybrid powertrain with all-wheel drive
The heart of the E-Ray is an incredible 6.2-liter pushrod V-8 engine, capable of 495 hp, with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that feeds the rear wheels. Completing the hybrid setup is a front-mounted electric motor with 160 horsepower and 125 lb.-ft. of torque, as well as an E-Ray specific oil cooler located behind the driver’s side front bumper. This innovative all-wheel drive set up allows for a total output of 655 hp, making the E-Ray one of the most powerful performance cars available on the market and certainly in its price range.
With its all-wheel-drive traction and instant electric torque, the E-Ray takes Corvette performance to new heights. Its responsive acceleration makes it the fastest factory-built Vette ever, with a 0–60 mph (0-97 km/h) time of 2.5 seconds—just one tenth shy of the targa-topped Z06’s 2.6 seconds—and a quarter mile time of 10.5 seconds, matching the Z06’s record. We expect that when the official 0-100 km/h times are out, the new 2024 Corvette E-Ray will also top the Z06’s posted time. To top it off, the electric motor is geared out for high speeds, allowing for speeds up to 289 km/h. Experience the ultimate in performance with the E-Ray today!
The E-Ray is equipped with a small 1.1-kWh lithium-ion battery that powers the permanent-magnet synchronous AC motor, as well as a 12-volt lithium-ion battery that supports the V8’s stop-start function and other accessories. All this power is contained in a center tunnel separating both passengers, weighing approximately 100 lbs with 80 pouches supplied by LG and assembled by GM.
This compact battery size is why the E-Ray isn’t plug-in hybrid; rather, it has been designed to rapidly charge and discharge itself when needed. The six selectable drive modes provide different levels of electric assist, while Charge+ mode maximizes the battery’s state of charge for those driving longer distances.
The E-Ray’s hybrid powertrain is accompanied by a multitude of exclusive features, as well as components commonly associated with the hardcore Z06. Not only does this hybrid boast with at an impressive 3.6 inches wider than the Stingray’s, but also comes armed with carbon-ceramic brakes for superior stopping power.
The E-Ray’s electric motor has an open diff and uses brake-based torque vectoring, focusing more on performance than efficiency. Though the hybrid will be the most fuel-efficient Corvette at the pump, the main objective of the new E-Ray is to use electrification to achieve even more impressive levels of power and performance.
The new 2024 Corvette E-Ray arrives on the market later this year and it promises to exceed expectations. Give us a call today to learn more about the new E-Ray. You won’t be disappointed.
