While most will likely know “Denali” to be referring to the National Park and reserve that just happens to contain one Mount McKinley, truck and SUV fans will know Denali represents the very best of luxury and refinement at General Motors, and specifically within the GMC brand.
More than that, however, you could say that it serves almost as a brand unto itself at GMC. When it first got its start in 2000, everything was a cut above what we’re used to seeing from a GMC truck. From the materials used, to the fact the truck which first bore the name – the 2000 Yukon – came with a locking centre differential and limited slip rear axle when other models only had a part-time 4WD system, you knew that Denali was being positioned as more than simply a trim package.
The next year, the hits just kept on coming when the Denali nameplate was attached to the Sierra pickup for the first time and with the nomenclature came the standard fitment of Quadrasteer four-wheel steering technology for better stability on the hghway and a tighter turning radius at slower speeds. The tech, which is more popular today than ever, owes much of its blueprint to those Denali trucks of the early ‘00s.
Today, you’ll know it as soon as you approach any given model in Denali spec (every model except the Savana passenger and cargo vans get the option); exterior styling signatures include LED c-clamp daytime running lights, aluminium wheels in a variety of styles and sizes and specialized chrome accents, all on-hand to separate Denali vehicles from their brethren.
Inside, however, is where the premium feel of the Denali trucks shines through. Watch for top-grade leather appointments, real aluminum trim and specialized French and Fractal stitching to see how far the Denali brand has come. Add the latest in GMC infotainment including Amazon Alexa compatibility and the ability to connect up to 7 devices to a WiFi hotspot – essential for bigger family haulers like the Yukon XL – and you have a masterclass in luxury trucking.
This year, GMC launched two new versions of the Denali lineup, the 2023 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate and 2023 GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate. Not only do these models feature every single comfort and connectivity technology you could ever want in a truck or SUV, but they also have a distinct design and their own visual signature. They also get an exclusive interior finish that really stands out.
